The Mountain 02 Sep, 2023 The Moutain

Building a Japanese stonegarden up in a river, on a mountain in Alta, Northern Norway, mainly of material from the site. The video, with a voiceover, of the act became the artpiece. Basically there was the mountain and on the other side of the world, in Japan, there was an old tradition of organizing stones as gardens, often with water playing up with the stones. Which story could they together tell us? During the work building the garden, the paradoxial event came to me with stories which naturally has been, and still is being, created in these slowly moving masses. Time is not an event, but never without events.

The Waterfall 02 Sep, 2023 The Waterfall

A kitchentable story, starting with a kitchentable. A story of unity from the sky to the fall, meeting a hard place, disappearing in the noise and atomized. But as these stones slowly getting decomposed by the droplets, it will continuously change the direction of the water hitting them.

The Rift 02 Sep, 2023 Rift

The Sun taking its sweep on the wall inside the Rift. You can see its movement every day, predictable. The small changes are there to see, but it takes some days or even weeks before you get aware of the seasonal movements. But mostly we're not aware of the strength of the beams.

You Are Approximately... 09 Feb, 2013 You Are Approximately

A large display (monitor), on the floor, faced upwards, with a shallow aquarium upon it, and in it a thin layer of water. Two infusion bags hanging from the ceiling is dripping into the aqurium. A few meters from the display is a ligthsource directed on to the aquarium, the light is hitting the waves created by the droplets and reflected up on a wall behind. The reflection is the first element you see when you enter the room.
The screen under the aquarium show shifting texts about 37 murders from around the world, all stupid, unnecessary, and all from the police annals. And they are tied up to you by gps, every text will tell you how far from the crimescene you are, and how many seconds too late you are to do something about it.

It contains a lightsource, a 50” monitor, an aquarium, medical drippers and a computer.
It is based on 37 random murders from around the world. The information is percived from policerecords and local newspapers. You are placed in relation to the crimes, in real time and space, at any given time.

Programmed by Jonny Bradley.

Time Table 11 Nov, 2011 _MG_8818.jpg

A white square table, from Ikea, in the middle of a room, with a glass of milk on it. Every time the train passes by on the top of the venue, the glass starts to vibrate violently and it's slowly moving towards the edge. It takes a few trains to get close to the edge, and then when it's threatening to fall over, it suddenly changes direction and starts moving towards another edge. The glass makes an loud sharp sound when it's moving.
The first time I showed the piece, in Beaconsfield gallery, London, the train passed over the venue every 2 minutes. I placed a microphone under the tracks, and used the sound to run the piece.
When the train passes the bassfrequence in the sound vibrates the table and move the glass. We use robotmechanism to keep the glass on the table.

This totally white domestic sculpture seams to bring on an anxiety in the audience, the terror of a mundane disturbance or maybe the everyday machine is out of control.

The visceral emotion of terror is mostly proportional to the life you're leading.

The Fish 11 Nov, 2011 IMG_0617.jpg

A behaviorstudy from my childhood; sneaking up on the fishpool, trying to learn how the fish behave in the wild. This time as a schematic, transparent and modern edutainment scheme, as we are all trying to get in contact with nature again.
An animated fish projected in a transparent pond with about 100 liters of water, this lens of water will enlarge the fish swimming on the floor below. If you´re trying to get closer up, the fish will swim fast away in the opposite direction you are coming from and disappear. But if you can stand perfectly still and not move a finger, or move yourself from the erea, it will come back again after about 20 seconds, only til you move again.

This piece will not work in small spaces with a larger audience, where is the art when you need it?

We're all growing up as patriots 11 Nov, 2009 We´re Growing Up A text written with the spit from kids mouths on agar-agar ground. Schizotopia 16 Nov, 2007 Schizotopi

This piece came about when I bought 60m of reindeerfence from the herders in this area, I replaced it with an industrialfence. I took the fence with me to the Vigeland museum in Oslo, and built a text out of every piece of the material.
Schizotopia, the divided landscape. A landscape in a deep frustration. What is it and what is it suppose to be, and what will it be in the future. Will it be a place for industrial meatproduction, a culture bearer, or is it longing to be just a mountain again?

Call Of The Wild 01 Sep, 2001 Call Of The Wild

The old men from the area, sat around the fire pit telling stories every summer when the fish was rising. All the locals was around, us kids was listening to the stories with open ears. These stories left a mark on our early life. Later they build a hydroelectric power plant in that river and I wondered who was telling stories now?
I found this Campfire site from the shore of my childhood river and picked it up. Cleaned it and got it chromed in an industrial process, where they used chromesteam in a vacumchamber. I then collected sound from the same river, both over- and underwater.

I showed the chromed campfire with speakers above, the sound was that from the river, run on a live feed of Benchmark Indexes from different stock exchanges. Above water sounds when the stocks are rising, underwater sounds when its falling, respectively in rising and falling frequencies.
